Below are a few examples of the unique capabilites that solar can provide in areas where the power source is unreliable or non-existent:

Wal-Mart Construction Site - Pittsburg, PA
Innovative Solar Solutions provided the engineering and design for security cameras for a construction site in Pennsylvania.   Each  system was designed to power one 45W outdoor security camera for 12 hours a day of run time. A small battery bank including 3 MK Deka 105AH batteries in an outdoor rated enclosure was required in order to meet the demands of the camera for 3 days of cloudy weather. In order to recharge the batteries, 3 Sharp 130 watt solar panels were mounted to a pole above the battery enclosure. A Morningstar charge controller and and Exeltech XP inverter were also included, as well as mounting hardware from Unirac for the solar panels. Each system was shipped complete to the construction site and was priced at approximately $4,750.00 before installation.
